So, for some reason I didn’t start with the K1, P1 ribbing and got about two inches before I realized what I was doing wrong (sheesh!  such an amateur).  So, I ripped that out and started again.

The start I should have had

Started knitting a pair of socks over the holidays.  I will be tracking my progress in a series of visual posts.  Today is the first installment.  This, was my start:

This, was the beginning. Or so I thought . . .

Christmas Cards . . . grrr December 13, 2009

Why is it that Christmas cards fill me with such angst?  I don’t enjoy writing them up, filling out addresses, applying stamps . . . none of it really.  They just seem like fussy little things that are a bit of a time waster.  And can you believe that to send one costs 44 cents now?!?  Yet it is something that has to be done.  Seriously, there are many more things I would rather be doing than Christmas cards right now.  Like any of my many unfinished projects.  Hmm . . . this does not bode well for my wedding invitations . . .

Of course it doesn’t help one bit that the metallic pens I bought and thought were going to be really cool are total crap.  And, I don’t have enough cards.  And, I have this sinking feeling that I don’t have enough stamps either.  I better stop, I’m getting more and more annoyed by the second.

The POS pens that failed me and my Christmas cards.

First snow? More flowers please! December 6, 2009

We had our first snow here last evening.  So, I thought it would be nice to add some more flowers.  These were in the wooded areas around Philipsburg Manor in Sleepy Hollow, NY.  We were there for the Sheep and Wool Festival they held this year.

Yellow!

They were everywhere! All smiling and happy!

So I also did some beading over the Thanksgiving break.  One of those items, the first one pictured here, got raffled off at a symposium I went to this past Friday.  (Thanks for the beads Mom!)

I was very tempted to keep this one myself.

This was an attempt to copy a necklace from the Sundance Catalog. It didn't come out the way I wanted, but it is ok anyway.

I spent the Thanksgiving Break working on my sweater.  Basically it is now finished but I still have to block it.  This has been about five years in making.  And I feel it was well worth it.  It fits and boy is it toasty warm.  Here is a peek at the work in progress prior to the seaming.

Mmmm . . . sweater.

I also made some jewerly too, but I’ll show off that a bit later.  One piece will be raffled off at an event tomorrow, Friday, December 3rd.

Thinking of flowers November 21, 2009

Funny how now that the leaves are gone I think about gardening and flowers.  I really have been too long without a garden.  Maybe someday I will have a yard of my own . . . I grew this from seed several years ago . . .

So, I have been working on this sweater, off and on, for about four years now.  It is one of my many unfinished projects.  But I think the end is in sight.  I have the front and back done and the shoulders sewn together.  I have completed one arm and am making headway on the second, as you can see from the picture.  I have to say, the arms have been fun so far.  Am I crazy to say I like picking up stitches?  I think it makes a nice looking join, unlike my shoulder seems, which are a bit wonky.  The pattern came from Alison Hansel of the Blue Blog and Charmed Knits fame.  Believe it our not, she taught me how to knit.  It was a hat class at A Good Yarn in Brookline, MA when I was living up there.  I soooo miss that store (sniff . . .).  But I still have the hat!  Well, the sweater fun continues.  I’m still deciding if I want to put the ‘H’ (for Hogwarts) on the front.  I’m worried it will be too difficult.  Then again, I’m brave enough to attempt a whole sweater.  Here is my progress so far:

Mmmm, warm wool.

So, I figure I will be doing plenty of posting of my flower photos.  This is from my parent’s backyard.  My Dad loves growing hollyhocks.  Unfortunately the deer love that he loves growing hollyhocks too.  So some years he never sees the flowers.  But this past summer was a good one.  He had the gorgeous black hollyhock growing back behing the garden next to the compost heap. Enjoy!

I got this great kit from a wonderful quilt shop in NYC.  I’ll be damned if I can remember the name, I definitely want to go back.  Basically the kit has all the pieces to create your own unique doll pin.  It was great fun making and is even more fun to wear.  I have it on my winter jacket right now.  And . . . I think she is cute as a button!  If you would like to see more products from the Artgirlz company, here is their website(I am not getting anything from recommending them, I just think their stuff is cool.)
