We had our first snow here last evening. So, I thought it would be nice to add some more flowers. These were in the wooded areas around Philipsburg Manor in Sleepy Hollow, NY. We were there for the Sheep and Wool Festival they held this year.

Funny how now that the leaves are gone I think about gardening and flowers. I really have been too long without a garden. Maybe someday I will have a yard of my own . . . I grew this from seed several years ago . . .

So, I figure I will be doing plenty of posting of my flower photos. This is from my parent’s backyard. My Dad loves growing hollyhocks. Unfortunately the deer love that he loves growing hollyhocks too. So some years he never sees the flowers. But this past summer was a good one. He had the gorgeous black hollyhock growing back behing the garden next to the compost heap. Enjoy!

Its more like deep purple than black. Alsolutely amazing.

Holy crap this blog took a nosedive! What happened? Where did I go? Life, that is what happened. The summer ran away with me as I went to a couple conferences, had a tonsillectomy and was hospitalized for DVT and PE. I’m better now and slowly recovering, but I’m working like a dog and spending much more time trying to boost the readership on my other blog: http://oelibrarian.wordpress.com. Don’t get me wrong, I am crafting. Knitting a sweater most recently. But, I need to actually start sharing more with the world. (Although right now I have absolutely no readers, ha, ha, so it really is just a place for me to play and document my own work for myself . . . at least for now.) So, as a point of re-entry into the craft world here is a photo I took a couple summers ago in a garden I created at my parent’s house:

These are stunning in real life.
Would you believe this plant came out of a Burpee seed packet? It was a mixed packet that could produce purple, white or blue delphiniums. I ended up with five plants, four blue and one white. I couldn’t believe my luck. Apparently it is pretty hard to get this royal blue color. It reminds me of the royal blue leotard (paired with pink tights and pink slippers) I had to wear to ballet class when I was little.
